About Me/CV
I’m a seasoned professional in the telecommunications industry with experience in outside plant design and engineering, project management, and sales and marketing.
I graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Management: Information Systems. My professional career began as a college hire into Verizon Communications in 2004. I had no prior exposure to telecommunications and was about to enter into a world I knew nothing about. The first six months included intensive training in outside plant engineering basics and systems classes. Training rides with the construction and splicing crews taught me a great deal about the physical infrastructure and what is all involved in bringing telephony services to residential and commercial customers. After six months, I was put in charge of six wire centers/exchanges in Oregon, responsible for all engineering activities ranging from new development design, hi-cap provisioning, and municipality road improvement projects involving plant relocations.
I was very fortunate to enter into Verizon during this time. Not only did the housing boom yielded a record number of new subdivisions and short plats, keeping Verizon busy designing work orders to accommodate the demand; it was around this time that Verizon announced its fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) initiative to bring fiber optic capabilities directly into each home. I was given the opportunity to lead a group of engineers in becoming the first in-house team in charge of the overlay design of four central office areas in Oregon. Our success led to increased responsibility in terms of being awarded additional wire centers/exchanges for FTTP design.
Now with a strong foundation in both copper and fiber network design, I joined the engineering project team tasked with managing the engineering vendors and overseeing the FTTP overlay project for Oregon and Washington. I created engineering process road maps to aid and manage our engineering vendors. I also performed quality audits on their redline deliverables. I was given the special cross training opportunity to project manage the construction portion of the FTTP overlay program in regards to targeting the multi-dwelling unit (MDU) residential and multi-tenant unit (MTU) business space in Oregon and Washington. My success in managing this program garnered me additional responsibility in the Southeast California markets.
My two month assignment as a construction project manager provided me with the skills necessary for my next and current role in Verizon: Sales Engineer for Verizon Enhanced Communities. I took my knowledge of the FTTP network and helped the VEC sales team target MDU/MTU properties and negotiated with property owners/managers for premise access licenses (PAL). These PALs were crucial in deploying our fiber optic upgrade to the MDU/MTU space.
